What is PR? Key concepts in public relations
PR is the communications discipline in which visibility isn’t bought; it’s earned through news value and trust.
PR is short for “public relations,” known in Turkish as “halkla ilişkiler.” It is the planned management of an organization’s relationships with the media, the public, and its stakeholders.
Its fundamental difference from advertising is that visibility isn’t bought. In PR, the right to appear is earned through news value, which is why its perceived credibility is higher.
A PR program moves through four steps: listening and auditing; strategy and message architecture; execution; and measurement and reporting.
Today, PR describes a broad framework that also encompasses digital PR, corporate communications, and reputation management.
